Janka - Adela Kaczmarek
Janka is an intimate portrait of Janina Ochojska, showing her unknown side.
The film combines documentary photos, cartoon animation and unique archival 16 mm materials.
Is life a collection of random events that add up to us? Are we the force of everything that is happening? Do we believe that we are somehow guided, even though we have free will? These questions are stated by the title character.
The film tells her story from the moment she got polio as a little girl and had to leave the family home.

Jury's justification: This seemingly scientific interpretation of man's cognitive processes turns into a subtle vivisection of a tormented, but perhaps inept and unbelievable narrator. This film uses the conventions of an interview with God in an extremely creative way. The scientist is practicing mansplaining; thanks to the animation, it sometimes offers dark visions as "evidence", but also as "fantasy", as a result of which the boundaries of these binarities keep shifting and colliding. We got a film, which is exceptionally bold, original and unlike anything we've seen before.
